Mosaics 2-Using Broken Pottery & Ceramics: WED, JUNE 6 (Part 1) and FRI, JUNE 8 (Part 2)

Do you appreciate the vibrant colors of pottery and ceramics, even when they are broken? In this class, you learn to use the INDIRECT mosaic method to create a small table top or trivet. You will learn how to prepare the substrate, how to create a pattern from your materials, how to mortar your mosaic, and how to finish it. This class is primarily for beginners or for any artist that wants to try a new medium. Sessions part 1 and part 2.
Limited to 6 participants. Minimum age 16.
The class has two sessions, each 2+ hours long. Your work needs to dry before Session 2.
- Preparing the substrate and designing your pattern
- Cutting and setting your tesserae
- Using thin set mortar to mount your tesserae
- Grouting and finishing your mosaic
- Mounting or hanging your mosaic
$59/student, includes all materials: (1) MDF substrate, pottery and ceramic shards, thin set mortar, and the grout needed to complete the project. Tools will be available to use in class. It is NOT necessary to bring your own materials, but if you have some you'd like to use, the instructor will provide guidelines on what works best. Once you've mastered the techniques in this class, you can make your own mosaic at home.
Andrea Edmundson, co-owner of Upcycle Tucson, has been an educator and corporate trainer for more than 25 years. She is also a glass and mosaic artist, specializing in using found or discarded items to inspire her creations. Andrea specializes in creating courses that focus on skill development, so you can be sure you will learn and remember valuable mosaic techniques.
