Mosaics 3-Using the Tapestry Technique: THURS, MAY 31 (Part 1) and FRI, JUNE 1 (Part 2)
ALL CLASSES REQUIRE PRE-REGISTRATION, thank you.
Do you have interesting two- and three-dimensional materials that would look great in a mosaic? In this class, you learn to use the TAPESTRY mosaic technique to create a basic but beautiful wall hanging. You will learn how to prepare the substrate, how to create a pattern from your materials, how to embed your items into prepared mortar, and how to finish the piece. This class is primarily for intermediate students or for any mosaic artist that wants to try a new technique. Sessions part 1 and part 2.
Limited to 6 participants. Minimum age 16.
The class is two sessions, 2 hours long each.
- Preparing the substrate and designing your pattern at a high level
- Mixing and coloring thin set mortar in small batches
- Using thin set mortar to mount your tesserae
- Mounting or hanging your mosaic
$59/student, includes all materials: (1) MDF substrate, some broken art glass or tiles, and thin set mortar. Tools will be available to use in class. Students should bring at least 2 cups (1 large baggie) of materials they want to mount such as old jewelry, beads, chains, metal or glass buttons, metal scrap, etc. Alternatively, you can purchase materials from Upcycle Tucson's shop. It's better to have too much bling than too little for this class!
